Last Sunday December 8th we were honoured to host the Kaikoura Junior Open. A big thank you to Rachel Sullivan from Tasman Golf for organising and running the event. There were 22 starters across 3 levels competing. 18-holers came from Blenheim, Marlborough and Awatere. The 9-holers from Cheviot and Kaikoura and our 6-hole beginners played on our newly rated purple course.
It was great to see so many of the beginners from Toni Batey’s Monday lessons trying out their skills in a their first ever competition!
The Results:
All of the 6-Holers received participation certificates and goodie bags plus some spot prizes.
9 Holes – Nett – Ollie Clouston 27, Jake Dickson 33, Finley Dunfoy 36.
18 Holes – Nett – Charlie Clarke (Blenheim) 71, Harry McNeill (Marlborough) 72, Kobe Hart (Blenheim), James Lichfield (Awatere) 75.
As part of the 6 and 9 Hole competitions there was a special Spot Prize – a GWX Junior Smash It Set. There was a random draw and the winner was Kaikoura’s Chloe Morrison – a 9-hole player often seen out playng with her Dad Pete.
A date for next year has already been agreed and we are looking forward to the event going from strength to strength. Thanks again to Tasman Golf and the Golf NZ Futures programme – not to mention the parents and helpers who made the day such a success.
